Aiden Hansen Memorial Lending Library

***The lending library at Aiden's school is now up and running.  Thank you for all the contributions to help get this off the ground.*** 

We started reading to Aiden in the hospital a few days after he was born.  We got a few funny looks (why would you be reading to an infant?) but that didn't faze us.  After sitting bedside for hours, your run out of songs to sing and things to say.  So books helped fill the time and keep us engaged with Aiden.  Aiden very quickly developed a love for reading and his book collection grew. 

While we read books throughout the day, the most special reading time was before bed.  We would snuggle up in bed with Aiden and he would rest his head on your arm or shoulder.  Aiden started memorizing books and poems at an early age. When Aiden started school, he was drawn to the language work.  He started learning the sounds of the letters and would create sound books.  Almost every day Aiden would come home from school with a new sound book that he had made.  He was so excited to show off his new book.  He would read them to his sister and he would pull out the whole collection of sound books to show visitors.

By the end of the school year Aiden was beginning to read.  When we would pick him up from school, he would be sitting on the little blue couch reading a book.  And at home, he would squeeze into a chair with Lilah and read books to her.

After Aiden's passing, his teacher created the lending library in memory of Aiden and his love of reading.  She also created a butterfly sticker that is colored by the donating family or one of the children in the class.  This butterfly is then stuck to the inside cover of the book.

There is still room for more books, so if you have a children's book (for ages 3-6) in good condition or would like to purchase one, please contact us and we will let you know where to send it.
